Despite complete domination in possession and attempts, England were unable to break down a well-organized, high-effort Ghana team. The “Three Lions” had 79% possesion and 19 total shots but were unable to get on the scoresheet.

A Rough Day for England

England failed to score today, but it was not for a lack of chances. They began strongly, with their best chance in the first half resulting from a set-piece routine that ended in an effort from Declan Rice that narrowly missed the crossbar. Both sides failed to convert on chances in the first half, with neither team registering a shot on target in the first 45 minutes.

With England dominating possession inside Ghana’s half, the European side were susceptible to the counterattack. Prince Adu nearly buried a chance at the end, but a last-ditch tackle from Ezri Konsa was enough to keep the clean sheet for England.

The final and biggest chance of the night came in the 86th minute. Reece James delivered a promising cross to Nico O’Reilly, whose header hit the bar. The ball dropped kindly to Harry Kane, but his volley from close range soared into the stands. It was a frustrating end to a below-par performance from the English striker and his squad.

Another Wonderful Goalkeeper Story

Not many will have heard the name Benjamin Asare before the World Cup, but they definitely know his name now. Asare is 33 years old and currently plays in the Ghana Premier League for Accra Hearts of Oak.

The backup keeper was called into action in Ghana’s opening match after an injury to the starting goalie, Lawrence Ati-Zigi. After 45 minutes vs. Panama and 90 minutes vs. England, Asare has made six saves and has yet to concede a goal.

Asare has etched his name among the goalkeepers whose fairytale journeys in the World Cup have captivated fans worldwide.

Final Matchday in Group L
