MLS schedule for Wednesday, August 19: Preview and Where to Watch

Following a weekend full of action, MLS returns on Wednesday with all 30 teams in action for Gameweek 19.

The midweek highlight matchup features Vancouver and Houston, competing for the top spot in the Western Conference. Dynamo have won four straight games since the return from the World Cup break and are yet to concede. Vancouver have struggled to find their pre-break form, with just two points in their first three games. Whitecaps managed to get a big win on Sunday on the road against a struggling Seattle side.

Just one point behind Houston and three behind Vancouver, LAFC have a big opportunity on the road at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. While they hope to take three points following a disappointing weekend, it will be a tall task for LAFC. They haven’t won at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park since October 2018, failing to do so in their last six attempts.

San Jose have not won a game since the return from the World Cup break, but are just four points behind conference leaders Vancouver. However, they have a great chance to change their form on the road against an LA Galaxy team that have not won in six matches. The two California teams met last month in Stanford Stadium, with the match ending in a 1-1 draw.

In the Eastern Conference, Nashville are now five points ahead of Inter Miami following Saturday’s win. Now, the conference leaders will take a trip to Harrison, NJ, to face off against a defensively poor Red Bull New York side. While the Red Bulls are unbeaten in all four home meetings with Nashville, they have not kept a clean sheet this season and could struggle against the attack of Mukhtar and Surridge. Nashville are on fire offensively at the moment, scoring 11 goals in their last five games.

Inter Miami have struggled in recent matches and now face a red-hot Philadelphia team. The Union have won all four MLS matches since sacking head coach Bradley Carnell, with 16-year-old Cavan Sullivan taking big leaps in the last few weeks. Including Leagues Cup play, Inter Miami have lost three straight games and will need to avoid another defeat to keep the distance between them and Nashville.
