The 2026-27 UEFA Champions League draw took place today, mapping out all the fixturs for each of the 36 league phase teams. Defending champions PSG will face both Manchester City and Barcelona, while finalists Arsenal are set to face Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.
How does the draw and league phase work?
The league phase consists of a single 36-team league table where every club faces eight different opponents. Before the Champions League draw took place on Thursday afternoon, the 36 teams were split into four pots, based on the teams’ coefficent rankings.
While the pots are used to determine the schedule, there a few restrictions in place.
- No domestic clashes: Teams cannot be drawn against teams from the same nation
- Nation limits: A team can only face up to two opponents from another nation
- Venue rotation: Teams cannot host an opponent they already hosted during the last two league phases
What are the Pot 1 matchups?
Pot 1 of the Champions League feature nine of Europe’s highest-ranked clubs. Since every Pot 1 teams has to play two other opponents from Pot 1 (one home and one away), many fans anticipate the heavyweight battles that the League phase produces.
