Liga MX never stops. As the Mexican National Team begins a new era under Rafael Márquez, the 2026 Apertura will feature Matchday 10 from Friday, September 25, through Sunday, September 27.
The Mexican soccer schedule was tightened up after the 2026 Leagues Cup, so this round will be played right in the middle of the international break. Thus, the league’s 18 teams will return to the field while the national teams fulfill their respective commitments.
The situation will be unique for several clubs, as 11 of the 18 Liga MX teams will have players called up by various national teams.
Matchday 10, Right in the Middle of the FIFA Window
While most of the world’s major leagues will pause play for the FIFA international break, the Mexican league will stick to its schedule and feature nine matches spread out over the weekend.
The action will begin on Friday with two matches and continue on Saturday with four games. Matchday 10 will conclude on Sunday with three more matches.

National team players will be the big absences
One of the key storylines of this matchday will be the absence of players called up by their respective national teams.
The players called up by Rafael Márquez account for a significant portion of the absences, although Chivas received authorization to use four of its national team players before they join the Mexican national team.
There will also be absences due to international call-ups from other countries. Among them are Kevin Mier of Cruz Azul and Óscar Perea of América, called up by Colombia; Santiago Simón of Toluca, called up by Argentina; and Rodrigo Aguirre of Tigres, called up by Uruguay.
Despite these absences, Liga MX will not alter the schedule for Matchday 10, and all 18 clubs will play during this FIFA international break.
Mexico commence the Rafa Márquez era against Colombia
Liga MX action will coincide directly with Rafael Márquez’s debut as head coach of the Mexican national team.
El Tri will face Colombia this Saturday, September 26, at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore. The match is scheduled for 9:00 p.m. ET and will be broadcast in the United States on Univision, TUDN, and ViX.
After the match against Colombia, Mexico will face Peru on September 29, followed by matches against the United States on October 3 and Chile on October 6.
Thus, this FIFA Matchday will see the Mexican national team entering a new phase at the same time that Liga MX plays Matchday 10 under unusual circumstances.
