The Mexican National Team has already set the stage for a new chapter in the so-called CONCACAF Classic. Mexico will face the United States on October 3 at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, as part of the September-October FIFA international window, in a match that will be part of the U.S. team’s home tour.
The match will be one of the first tests for Rafael Márquez, who will begin his tenure as head coach of the Tricolor with a series of friendly matches against opponents from CONMEBOL and CONCACAF. These matches will help shape the team as they look ahead to the CONCACAF Nations League, which will take place in November and is expected to see Mexico play on home soil once again.
Before facing the United States, the Mexican national team will kick off their schedule on September 26 against Colombia in Baltimore. They will then face Peru on September 29 in New Jersey and close out the international window with a match against Chile in Los Angeles—a game that has not yet been officially confirmed as it depends on an agreement between the two federations.
With the announcement of the match against the Stars and Stripes, Mexico now has four friendly matches scheduled for the upcoming FIFA window—a key phase in the run-up to the 2030 World Cup.
For its part, the U.S. national team will begin its tour by facing Peru on September 26 in Orlando, Florida, and will then play Chile in St. Louis. It will then host Mexico on October 3 in Glendale and conclude the international window against Canada in St. Paul, Minnesota.
The U.S. team will be led by Mauricio Pochettino, who recently extended his contract with U.S. Soccer through 2030 and highlighted the importance of playing these matches in front of their fans.
“We’re very excited to begin this new phase of our journey with matches in front of our fans. Their incredible energy this summer has set the tone,” the coach said.
Pochettino added that he expects his players to approach every match with the highest level of commitment.
