Netherlands win Group F; Japan and Sweden both qualify for Round of 32

Netherlands Cruise Past Tunisia

The final matchday was a comfortable night for Netherlands, who were already up 2-0 after just seven minutes against Tunisia. The European side took the lead just three minutes in through Skhiri’s own goal, after Dumfries’ right-wing cross was inadvertently diverted into the net by the Tunisia captain. It got better for the Dutch side as Van Dijk cushioned Reijnders’ free-kick into the path of Brobbey for the second of the match. Tunisia improved after the break and scored just nine minutes into the second half to pull one back. Netherlands restored their two-goal lead in the 62nd minute as Reijnders’ corner was flicked on by Van Hecke.

Japan and Sweden Level After 90 Minutes

Both teams had to dig deep after a stalemate in the first 45 minutes. The breakthrough finally came through in the 56th minute for Japan. Doan picked up the ball and delivered an impressive through ball into the path of Maeda. The Celtic forward rolled it into the net to break the deadlock.

Sweden managed to respond quickly, with a wonderful strike from Anthony Elanga. He swung his left foot at it, and Suzuki was completely helpless as it passed by him. The result was favorable for both teams as a point was enough for each to advance to the knockout stage.

What’s Next?

As winners of Group F, Netherlands will face off against Morocco on Monday in Monterrey. In the other matchup, Japan and Sweden drew 1-1, with both teams progressing to the Round of 32. It’s a trip to Houston to face Brazil for Japan on June 29, who finished second. As a third-place team, Sweden still have to wait to see who their first knockout opponent would be.
