The countdown to the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup™ is entering its final stretch, and the opening ceremony in Mexico City continues to add elements to the historic spectacle.
With just seven days to go until the opening match, FIFA confirmed that Shakira and Burna Boy will perform “Dai Dai” live for the first time, one of the songs featured on the official 2026 FIFA World Cup™ album. The performance will also serve to promote the FIFA and Global Citizen Fund for Education.
The show will take place on Thursday, June 11, at the Mexico City Stadium and will begin an hour and a half before the start of the tournament’s opening match. The ceremony will mark the official start of a World Cup that promises to bring together millions of fans around the globe through soccer, music, and culture.
FIFA had previously announced that the event would feature some of the most renowned figures in international music. Confirmed artists include Alejandro Fernández, Belinda, Burna Boy, Danny Ocean, J Balvin, Lila Downs, Los Ángeles Azules, Maná, Shakira, and Tyla, who will bring the official 2026 World Cup album to life.
Officials recommend that fans arrive early to enjoy all the scheduled activities. The opening ceremony will begin at 11:30 a.m. local time, while the gates of the Mexico City Stadium will open four hours earlier to offer special activities, entertainment, and various pre-match experiences.
Mexico will have the honor of officially opening the 2026 FIFA World Cup™, marking the first of three opening ceremonies planned for the tournament. Similar events will follow in Canada and the United States, while additional guest artists will be announced in the coming days.
In addition to his role in the show, “Dai Dai” is part of an initiative aiming to raise $100 million for the FIFA and Global Citizen Education Fund. The goal is to expand access to soccer and quality education for girls and boys around the world once the tournament concludes.
