Spain will open its World Cup campaign today against Cape Verde at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. Lamine Yamal’s fitness has been a big topic of discussion, but the Barcelona star is not in the starting 11 today. Nico Williams, who has also been dealing with an injury, is on the bench as well.

A big debate heading into the World Cup was who should be starting in net for Spain. Unai Simon has been Luis de la Fuente’s number one option for years, but many believe that David Raya (Arsenal) or Joan Garcia (Barcelona) should be given the chance over the Athletic Club keeper.

New Real Madrid player Marc Cucurella starts at left-back, while four FC Barcelona players (Cubarsi, Pedri, Gavi, Ferran) feature in the starting lineup.

Mikel Oyarzabal leads the line, scoring six goals in 6 World Cup qualifying games.

Official Starting 11 for Spain: Unai Simon, Llorente, Cubarsi, Laporte, Cucurella, Rodri, Pedri, Fabian, Gavi, Ferran, Oyarzabal
