Arsenal cruised to victory at home on Friday in the Premier League‘s opening match of the 2026/27 season. The defending champions needed just 15 minutes to open the scoring, before doubling their lead just eight minutes later. With a goal early in the second half, Arsenal sealed a 3-0 win over newly promoted Coventry City.

A great opening 45 minutes

Kai Havertz scored Arsenal’s first goal of the season just 15 minutes into the match. Coventry defender Van Ewijk was sloppy on the ball after some pressure from Tzolis, and Calafiori pounced on the loose ball. The Italian defender played a great ball into Havertz, who struck a well-hit shot into the far corner to open the scoring.

With Coventry unable to respond, Arsenal doubled the lead just eight minutes later. Odegaard found Tzolis out wide, who played a great ball into Saka’s path. The low cross was pushed away by Rushworth, but the ball went directly into Saka’s path, who rolled the ball into an unguarded net for Arsenal’s second goal.

An early second-half goal sealed the match

Martin Odegaard joined the goalscoring action, scoring Arsenal’s third goal of the match in the 49th minute. The Arsenal captain found space and played a great ball to Saka, who released the ball to White on the overlap. Odegaard mishit his shot, but a wrong-footed Rushworth was unable to stop the skipper from scoring his first goal of the season.

What’s next?

Reigning champions Arsenal are once again at the top of the table following a dominant 3-0 win vs. Coventry City. For the newly promoted side, they will hope to bounce back quickly as they face fellow newly promoted side Hull City next weekend. For Arsenal, they will face a much tougher battle in Matchday 2 against Aston Villa next Monday, the 31st.
