Following a great All-Star event in Charlotte on Wednesday, MLS is back in action this weekend for the final matchup prior to the start of the Leagues Cup.
This weekend’s action begins with a Friday night Eastern Conference match between 5th place NYCFC and 12th place Toronto. New York have won back-to-back games and will be looking to add to their home dominance vs. the Canadian side. NYCFC have scored 18 goals in their last five home meetings, winning four of those games.
At the top of the Eastern Conference, Nashville will look to maintain their two-point lead over Inter Miami as they travel to face a DC United team who are unbeaten in their last four matches. Inter Miami will face Columbus Crew at home, once again without Lionel Messi and Rodrigo De Paul. With six straight wins for Miami, they look to continue this streak against a team they have never lost to at home.
In the Western Conference, Vancouver, LAFC, and San Jose are all tied at the top of the table with 33 points. San Jose will take a trip on the road to face FC Cincinnati, the second-highest scoring team in the MLS. These two teams have only played three times in their history, with Cincinnati scoring 10 goals in their last two matchups.
The highlight match of the weekend is Vancouver vs. LAFC at BC Place. While both teams have 33 points this season, LAFC has played two more games than Vancouver and are in much better form at the moment. Since the return from the World Cup break, LAFC have scored 10 goals and conceded just one across their last three matches. They have outscored opponents 11-1 during their current four-match winning streak. For Vancouver, the Whitecaps have won just 2 of their 7 league matches and will be hoping for some contribution from their Brian White, their starting striker. White has scored 17 goals in 18 regular-season home matches since the start of last season, and will need to find form after scoring in just one of his last seven league matches. For LAFC, they will be hoping for Heung-Min Son to continue his goalscoring form after scoring in his last three matches.
