Australia register first World Cup win

Great World Cup start for the Aussies

Australia managed to edge the Republic of Ireland 1-0 in their opening match in the World Cup. The Aussies who are one of the favorites in this World Cup and began in the best way possible. Australia had not won an opening game since 2007 meaning their victory Ireland was a historic victory. Australia will be hoping to make history and go to the semi finals for the first time in their history. 

No Kerr No problem

Australia managed to get the only goal of the match through a Catley penalty in the 52nd minute in their opening World Cup match. The Aussies dominated against Republic of Ireland in all areas of the game. They will be even more proud of the fact that they managed to win the game without Sam Kerr. Sam Kerr will miss their next game against Nigeria where they will be seeking to win another game. Sam Kerr sustained a calf injury in training thankfully it is not as serious. If the Aussies manage to beat Nigeria it will see them go to the knockout stages. They also face a group crunching tie against Canada which could determine who finishes first in the group.

Ireland fall short in their World Cup debut

The Republic of Ireland who made their World Cup debut fell short narrowly to Australia. Republic of Ireland did put up a good fight despite falling short against the hosts. The Irish had their fareshare of chances especially two that came during injury time. However their chances were not enough to even salvage a point. Republic of Ireland face off against Canada in their next World Cup match. Despite being the underdogs they will desperately need a win if they are to progress to the knockout stages.
