Chivas seem to have found their stride in the 2026 Apertura. After a shaky start under Gabriel Milito, the Rebaño Sagrado has begun to show a much more dominant side, especially on offense.
The most recent proof of this came against Atlético San Luis, whom Guadalajara defeated 0-3 at Estadio Libertad Financiera, formerly known as Alfonso Lastras. It took the red-and-white squad just a few minutes to make it clear they were going for the three points.
With this result, Chivas maintains its strong run of form and, for now, sits in second place in the 2026 Apertura standings, while also extending its unbeaten streak dating back to Matchday 1.
Chivas scores twice in just 10 minutes
The team coached by Milito came out determined to dictate the pace and was quickly rewarded. In the 6th minute, Hugo Camberos’ speed once again took center stage. The young forward helped break down the Potosí defense, and following the play, Santiago Sandoval fired a shot that found the back of the net.
The goal dealt an early blow to Atlético San Luis, who tried to respond almost immediately. A response nearly came thanks to Sébastien Salles-Lamonge. The Potosí player unleashed a powerful shot that seemed destined for the corner, but the ball ended up crashing off the crossbar defended by Raúl ‘Tala’ Rangel.
Chivas, on the other hand, made no mistake. El Rebaño found the back of the net again, and this time their two forwards took center stage. Ángel Sepúlveda laid the ball off for Ricardo Marín, who fired a first-time shot to make it 0-2.
Milito’s confidence in Marín was once again on full display.
Atlético San Luis tried to mount a comeback, but Chivas controlled the game
Trailing by two goals, Atlético San Luis came out for the second half determined to turn the tide. The team coached by Raúl Chabrand had a few chances in the opening minutes and also sought to capitalize on the injury-forced exit of Andrés Sánchez, who had to leave the field during the first half.
However, their comeback never quite materialized. The lack of decisiveness ultimately weighed on the team from San Luis Potosí, while Chivas regained control of the match. Guadalajara didn’t just sit back to defend its lead but continued to look to extend the margin.
Richy Ledezma seals the victory for Chivas
The Rojiblancos’ third goal came after a great save by Ricardo Marín. The forward flicked the ball with precision, setting it up perfectly for Richy Ledezma’s run. The young fullback entered the box, looked up, and finished with great precision to beat Lajud and make it 0-3.
With this victory, Chivas confirms that it is enjoying one of its best stretches of the tournament and remains among the top teams in the standings. The Rebaño Sagrado still has a long way to go in the 2026 Apertura, but recent results are beginning to back up Gabriel Milito’s project. After that setback on Matchday 1, Guadalajara has not lost again in Liga MX and now looks set to become one of the championship’s leading contenders.
