Reigning MLS champions Inter Miami announced today, July 22, that they officially signed Brazilian international midfielder Casemiro. The five-time Champions League winner, who most recently played with Manchester United, was a free agent following the end of his four-year tenure in England. Casemiro is under contract through the end of the 2027 MLS Spring Season, with an option to extend until June 2029.
Casemiro represented Brazil at this summer’s World Cup, playing in all five matches during the South American nation’s run to the Round of 16. This followed a successful club campaign with Manchester United, where the midfielder scored 9 league goals across 34 Premier League games.
In Inter Miami’s official announcement, Casemiro spoke on his desire to join the US-based club. “What motivates me the most, and I think this is true for every player, is winning and continuing to grow. The project the Club presented to me, along with the effort everyone made to bring me here, means a lot to me,” said the former Champions League winner.
While there is no transfer fee as Casemiro was a free agent, Inter Miami had to negotiate with LA Galaxy due to MLS’ rules on discovery rights. The two clubs reached a settlement for the Discovery priority to sign Casemiro, and the terms will be released upon conclusion of the tampering investigation currently open with Major League Soccer.
