Major League Soccer (MLS) returned from its summer break yesterday with six teams in action. The much-anticipated matchup between Chicago and Vancouver was postponed due to poor air quality in the Chicago area due to the Canadian wildfires. Montreal and Toronto drew 0-0 in an all-Canadian matchup, while St. Louis City defeated Sporting KC 3-2 at home. The night concluded with a stampede from Portland as they defeated Seattle 5-1 on the road at Lumen Field.
Four more teams are in action tonight, headlined by the Los Angeles derby “El Tráfico”
Nashville vs. Atlanta
Nashville comes into this game red hot, with 33 points through 14 matches. All five previous teams to hit this mark went on to win the Supporters’ Shield. Atlanta have been on the opposite side of this spectrum, with only three wins and 11 total points across 14 games played. These two teams met back in April at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, where Nashville snagged a 2-0 victory on the road. Signs definitely point to another big Nashville performance.

LA Galaxy vs. Los Angeles FC
Since LAFC’s introduction to the MLS back in 2018, El Tráfico has quietly become one of the biggest rivalries in the MLS. The all-time record favors LA Galaxy, but both meetings last season ended in high-scoring draws. 86 goals have been scored between these sides in just 21 regular-season MLS matchups, so it would not be shocking to expect goals today. Derbies like this can go in any direction, regardless of how well the clubs are performing.
