What was supposed to be a peaceful vacation turned into a tense situation for Hossam Hassan, Egypt national team manager, who had to be taken to a hospital after fainting while trying to break up a heated argument between his two wives. The incident occurred on August 14 at a luxury resort on Egypt’s northern coast.

According to reports by Al-Arabiya, the argument between Howaida Al-Gharbawi and Dan Adam began as a heated verbal confrontation but quickly escalated into a physical fight. The altercation involved punches and even chairs being thrown, while other guests watched the scene unfold.

Hossam Hassan tried to stop the fight

As the argument escalated, several family members tried to separate the two women, though their efforts were not enough. The situation ultimately required the intervention of the police and emergency services. Both women suffered cuts and bruises during the confrontation.

Amid the chaos, Hossam Hassan tried to intervene personally to stop the fight. However, the 60-year-old coach ended up fainting.

According to Egyptian media reports, the coach suffered severe emotional distress due to the situation and had to be rushed to a medical facility. So far, the reason behind the argument between the two women has not been publicly disclosed.

The video of the fight went viral

Al-Arabiya broadcasted footage of the altercation that quickly began circulating on social media. The video shows the intensity of the argument and the moment when the situation escalated into a physical confrontation. The incident quickly became one of the most talked-about topics in Egypt, especially due to the presence of the national team coach in the midst of the incident. The lawyer for Dan Adam, Hassan’s second wife, described the incident as a “premeditated assault” against his client. Meanwhile, Howaida Al-Gharbawi filed a complaint regarding the altercation, though she later decided to withdraw it.

Hossam Hassan is reportedly divorcing his first wife

The fallout from the confrontation did not end with medical treatment. According to Al-Arabiya, Hossam Hassan has reportedly decided to divorce Howaida Al-Gharbawi, whom he has been married to since 1994.

The couple has four children and, according to reports, had already gone through various crises during their marriage. They even separated temporarily in 2022, though they later reconciled.

Al-Gharbawi’s lawyer has remained tight-lipped about the specific reasons for the breakup and noted that the family prefers to keep the details private. Howaida herself also made a brief statement on the matter.

“The secrets of the home will remain within it and will not leave it, even after the divorce,” she said.

Hossam Hassan and Dan Adam were married in 2015

Hassan married Dan Adam in 2015, while he was still married to Al-Gharbawi. In Egypt, the law permits polygamy for Muslim men, with a maximum of four wives, provided certain legal conditions are met.

Among these conditions is the obligation to notify existing wives of the new marriage and to ensure equal treatment. Hassan’s case brought the issue back into the center of public discourse following the violent incident on the country’s northern coast.

A Legendary Figure in Egyptian Soccer

Beyond the scandal currently surrounding his personal life, Hossam Hassan is one of the most important figures in Egyptian soccer. As a player, he was the all-time leading scorer for the Egyptian national team for much of his career, with 69 goals—a record later surpassed by Mohamed Salah.

After retiring as a player, Hassan began his coaching career and managed various clubs in Egypt and Jordan. In 2024, he took over as head coach of the Egyptian national team, a position from which he led the team to the 2026 World Cup. The Egyptian team also advanced to the Round of 16, making Hassan’s tenure at the helm of the national team one of the most significant periods of his coaching career.

Now, however, the coach finds himself back in the spotlight, though this time for an incident completely unrelated to the field. As the fallout from the clash between his wives and his divorce proceedings continues, Hassan must also face the personal consequences of a situation that even led to his hospitalization.
